Drinking Beer is good for you… when its brewed by veterans.
Coatbridge based Veterans Brewing are a craft brewery with a difference.
Established on 11/11/2014, Armistice day, Veterans Brewery is the UK’s first craft brewery owned by, run by and supporting veterans.
Tommy Watt and Alex McDivitt are both veterans who served with the British Army for 22 years and completed operational tours in Northern Ireland, The Balkans and the Middle East.
They are firm friends through shared regimental experiences got talking about the projects they were involved in, Tommy with a brewing company and Alex with setting up a charity to benefit veterans. They decided to join forces (excuse the pun!) and Veterans Brewing was born.
Tommy and Alex want to support ex-services personnel who retire or are invalided out into civilian life. They have ambitious plans to employ hundreds of veterans from across the UK, but for now are working from their Coatbridge brewery. Tommy said:
“We have an affiliation with similar brewers from the US, Canada and Australia. It’s a fantastic support network and it gives Alex and I inspiration seeing how accomplished some of these brewers are and how many veterans they have employed and supported”.
The future for many veterans is bleak, and the statistics paint a harsh picture of suicides, unemployment, criminal activity. There were 50 suicides last year, 29 veterans and 21 service personnel and 10% of the UK’s prison population is made up of veterans.
“We want to help address these issues and offer support, a lifeline, to veterans and their families.” said Tommy. “The business has a military theme that means it’s an environment that veterans can relate to and will thrive in as its familiar environment to them”.
Veterans brewery beers are served in selected Wetherspoons nationwide and are proud to be stocked in Aldi supermarkets as part of their 17TH Scottish Beer Festival which starts on 28th March.
We urge you to support Veterans Brewery buying as many bottles of their Golden Ale as your local Aldi and helped support veterans and veterans brewing. You’ll enjoy a guilt free beer as you know you’re helping others. We’d love for Aldi to stock Veterans Brewery year-round so that Alex and Tommy can help as many ex service men and women as possible.
If you’d like to purchase direct, you can via their online shop.
To help Veterans Brewery grow their business, KubeNet are providing essential services with our Business Broadband package free of charge so they can save on their expenditure.
