XLCC

XLCC’s takeover of a site in Irvine in readiness for extensive sub sea cabling project required full infrastructure enablement to support the growing technology and connectivity requirements for the site.

Our team ensured this new site was ready to deliver the essential cabling and services to enable XLCC teams’ expansion in to Ayrshire.

The Objective

As a new site, the initial objectives for XLCC were to build the foundations of an agile and flexible infrastructure within the office and warehouse, provide reliable connectivity, install WiFi access points throughout the warehouse, and establish IT backup for the onsite PC, ensuring perfect communication and system reliability across their operations.

The Company

XLCC offers a range of advanced services to support global renewable energy connectivity. Specialising in HVDC subsea cables, XLCC produces XLPE-coated cables for interconnector projects and offshore wind farms. They are also investing in one of the largest Cable Laying Vessels (CLV) to manage cable installation and handling. Additionally, XLCC provides subsea cable protection, real-time cable monitoring systems, and cable repair services, ensuring optimal performance and reliability for their clients.

Due to the nature of their work, XLCC requires a robust IT system with reliable WiFi access to support their operations and ensure seamless communication across all sites.

The Challenge

The key challenge for the project was the tight deadline, as the building had no existing services, essentially providing a blank canvas for the installation. With no prior infrastruc-

ture in place, the team had to work quickly to complete the Cat6 cabling, connectivity, WiFi access points, and IT backup setup within a compressed timeframe, all while ensuring high standards of quality and functionality. The pressure of the timeline added complexity, but the lack of current infrastructure also allowed for a fully customised solution to be implemented from the ground up.

Project Delivery

Pre-Project Initiation

To begin, onsite surveys’ and meetings were held to thoroughly scope out the project requirements, including deadlines, services, and hardware needs as well as taking into account the future requirements of the site. This planning phase ensured that all expectations were aligned. Detailed project documentation was also prepared, alongside specific installation guidelines to ensure smooth-running of the process.

Project Start-End

Throughout the project, clear communication was maintained with agreed dates for weekly updates and regular onsite review meetings. Both the customer and contractor had direct access to the Kube Project Manager, ensuring swift decision-making and consistent progress from start to finish.

Post Project Care

Once the main project was completed, ongoing support was provided to accommodate any ad-hoc changes needed. After a designated aftercare period, the project was formally signed off, marking the successful conclusion and handover of the work as Phase 1 for this site.
